Our vision is to create a lasting network of exceptional outdoor recreation destinations that inspire adventure, strengthen communities, and foster meaningful connections with nature. By preserving what makes each destination unique and investing in great people, we aim to set the standard for outdoor hospitality, stewardship, and unforgettable experiences for generations to come.

Our History

Bound for Adventure traces its roots to River Riders, an outdoor recreation company founded in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, in 1987. What began as a whitewater rafting outfitter on the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers grew steadily through a commitment to exceptional guest experiences, strong safety standards, and a passion for connecting people with the outdoors. In 1998, Matt and Laura Knott acquired River Riders and began expanding the business beyond rafting into a year-round adventure destination. Over the years, River Riders added ziplining, camping, lodging, tubing, water attractions, and other outdoor experiences, becoming one of the Mid-Atlantic region's leading adventure and hospitality companies. Building on that foundation, Bound for Adventure was created to support and grow exceptional outdoor recreation businesses while preserving the unique character and local traditions that make each destination special. In 2024, the company acquired Wilderness Voyageurs in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, adding one of the nation's most respected whitewater rafting, cycling, and outdoor travel companies to its portfolio. The company later expanded into winter recreation through Snow Riders in West Virginia and Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Zipline in North Carolina. Today, Bound for Adventure operates a growing collection of outdoor recreation, hospitality, and adventure travel businesses across multiple states. While each destination maintains its own identity and connection to its community, all share a commitment to safety, stewardship, exceptional service, and creating memorable experiences that inspire people to explore the outdoors.
